FOR MOM! A New Mother's Day Song

If I Were ~ A relaxing bedtime Song by Bryant Oden

If I Were (an older version was called The Whistle Song) is a relaxing bedtime song or lullaby, or just a soothing “mellowing out” anytime song for kids.  I didn’t really plan it to be that way, but once we added the flute, it took on a pretty, soothing quality I really liked.  The song is on the CD Songdrops 3.   Here are the audio and Youtube video of the song:

 Song by Bryant Oden

Much thanks to Danae Shanti for the background vocals and  Rick D. Lewis, of CrankItUp studios,  for the lovely flute.

Here are the lyrics and chords to If I Were (formally The Whistle Song).

If I Were: Words and guitar tabs

C             G           F                     C
If I were a tree I’d be pleased with me

F               C             F                 G
Living and giving so others could be

C               G         F                  C
If I were a deer, I’d feel pride sincere

F                    C                  F          G   C
Knowing that no one’s as graceful as me

If I were a bear I’d love a good scare
You better not touch I don’t mind if you stare
If I were a fish I’d laugh at the wish
Of people to breathe without air

If I were a whale with a splash of me tale
I’d make a wave that would make pirates pale
If I were a frog I’d sit high on a log
And sing all the tadpoles some mighty tall tales

I actually don’t have the music notes for the flute part 🙁 I whistled it, and then we added the flute. Sorry I can’t help. It might be a fun challenge to try to figure out the flute part. Or it might be a headache 🙂

  25. Bryant Says:

Hey Logan. I have used a keyboardist with digital instruments. I think we’ve used a sax once or twice, as part of a horn section, but they are always digital, from keyboards.

    How much time
do you spend on an song like this

  27. Bryant Says:

Hey Riley. It didn’t take long to write this song. But adding in flute and whistling took a LOT of time. I spent too much time on this one, actually. 🙂 I had just started recording Songdrops songs and I hadn’t learned yet to keep things moving.
